Wondering if anyone has made any progress on this or if there are any suggestions on where I might start this customization.

CiviCRM 3.1 (and I think 3.0) includes a task you can select from 'Find Contributions' -> Print Contribution Receipts. It generates a PDF with one receipt per page.

In 3.1, it uses the 'text' version of the 'Contribution Receipt - online' System-workflow message template. So you can modify and add content by editing that message template (Administer >> Customize >> Message Templates). However, changes you make there will also affect emailed receipts received by contributors when they donate through a CiviCRM online contribution page (if you're using that feature).

This just prints out a table of contributions, rather than one per page. I'll have a look at the template and see whether I think I can modify it to my needs. I think for our purposes the goal would also be to be able to print one receipt per donor for the total yearly contribution.

Hmm - when I tested out that function it did print one per page.
