Import Events option...
April 05, 2010, 10:55:35 am
I have events that repeat frequently. In a similar way to Import Activities I would like to import a csv file of events. Currently, I do so by importing a csv file within phpMyAdmin. However, it would seem straightforward to give civicrm users the option to import events.

this comes up quite often. Would be great if you can make a code contribute that does the needful. You should also check the forums since there might be some sample code that does a bit of this

I would love to write the code & contribute. But, I'm "new here" and my Karma is only 2. Perhaps one day.

Donald, thanks for the reply... months ago. With my post read so many times, perhaps it now has enough views to gain some traction. I have just upgraded to CiviCRM 4 on Drupal 7 and enjoy all the improvements. However, I still have the desire to import many events.

Do you [or any other reader] have any suggestions on how this improvement could go forward?

Adding one event at a time,
Tim

lots of ways it can go forward:

1. You write a detailed issue that specs what you need, chat with some folks on IRC, get some consensus and write code that implements the spec

2. If you are not a developer, then might want to consider hiring someone from the community to do the needed work. Alternatively you can try to get a couple of other organizations who have the same need to chip in and help make it happen

3. Depending on how complicated the spec, i suspect the above is a 25-50 hour project or so. So to some extent also depends on how much time you spend entering an event and how much that is worth :)

Hi timindaburgh,

Found this in the wiki, its code for a module done by mark that imports events:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC32/Importing+Events

Could probably work as a good start for any import events tool.

Lobo, what is the process to get a feature listed as a "Make it Happen"?

check:

for anything more than 20 hours, we'd prefer that we have some seed sponsors who help develop the spec for 25%+ of the final MIH amount
