Contribution and Memberships
April 23, 2010, 11:51:49 am
After 2 weeks of trying to figure this out, I've decided to come here. If you have any tips that would help me out, please let me know.

Before I describe the problem, here is some information on the contribution page:

- We are using Paypal Pro. The testing and live transactions go through without a problem.
- We have memberships setup under CiviMember, and use the CiviMember to Drupal Roles sync successfully.
- The contribution process goes smoothly (except for the problem below).

The problem is that after someone has gone through the contribution process and successfully pays (where it goes through in Paypal), that contact in civicrm is not assigned to the membership they paid for. We can manually go in and add the membership, and it works great, but we would like this to be an automatic process. It does this for both testing and live transactions.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!  :)

And the membership is assigned to the contribution page? Maybe you could add screen shots of you contribution page set up

Having exactly the same problem here. Which screens do you want to see?

EDIT: I've attached the top half of the membership form.

You still need to add in the 'price options' - at present you are letting them select the membership but not select to pay the right amount for it, i think

Hey Peter, I'm not following this. When someone submits the form, their payment (for the correct amount!) is processed by Paypal and then they are returned to the website. However, they do not have a membership attached to their account afterward.

We get their money, but they don't get their membership. Obviously we can manually update their record but that sort of defeats the purpose.

Hi,

Are you able to set up a similar page on the demo site & test it there. Put your test paypal credentials in as the live credentials. Post the result & also a link to the page

Okay! I went through and built an exact duplicate of our membership signup form. Exact except for the sandbox credentials, that is. Other than that, I went through step by step to create this form:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=5

Thanks for looking!

So, it's paypal express you are using. Are you able to go through & make a 'payment' - when I try I get paypal sandbox login screen (repeat after me - I hate paypal)

Yes, we've successfully received three payments so far. As I mentioned above, we're getting the money but the system isn't updating those contacts with their membership.

No, I mean - are you able to make the payment on the sandbox?

Yup, I sure did! The system "collected" $25 off me for my Individual membership type. My name is "demo, demo" under the Membership dashboard, and here's my record:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=103

(It looks like "demo, demo" also bought a coffee mug, made a donation and a campaign contribution at some point  :D )

So the whole thing works fine on the demo system. But the identical setup is not working on my site.  ???

3.1.3

Think I should upgrade to 3.1.5? I've sort of been holding off for 3.2.

Yes 3.1.5 is a good idea. I can't remember what they were but there were some good fixes in there. It's a pretty safe upgrade - 3.1.4 to 3.1.5 only affects a few countries and states (ie. changes in names etc). I can't remember what 3.1.3 to 3.1.4 had in it but it was pretty harmless too.

Eep I'm skeered! It'll be my first CiviCRM upgrade. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what happens!
