A forum post from last year (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,9509.0.html) mentions that the ability to do token substitution in receipt emails would be added to a future release of CiviCRM.

Has this capability made its way into the code yet?

To add variables to the smarty template, do I still use the same method outlined in the original post? Or is there a new/better way to do it that requires less hacking?

Back in August 2009, Lobo mentioned:

So none of the receipt code (contribution or event reg) does any token substitution. I would probably do all the token evaluation in the emailReceipt function. I'd also do the same for event registration

Since 3.0 is on its way out, i suspect this will make it into core in 3.1 or so

Did any changes make their way into core?

Is token processing in message templates included in 3.2?
