Getting Logged Joomla Login in Backend - Front End Problem for Users too
December 10, 2010, 09:56:50 am
I'm a limited knowledge user of Joomla and CiviCRM.  I'm having pretty much the same problem in the back end described bu matthewdyne in the post http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,15502.0.html.   After I try to enter the CiviCRM component in the Joomla back end, I am sometimes kicked back to the Joomla back end login screen.  After I log into Joomla again I can enter the CiviCRM component and it works just fine.

I'd like to try the solution suggested by lcdweb, however, I would to know the actual the CiviCRM and Joomla files to check and where to find them.

I am also having a similar problem on the front end.

Existing and new users log in, and complete a Survey that has been set up through a CiviCRM Profile.  When they select "Save" they are logged out and sent to the home page.  When they log in again their information has not been saved and experience the same thing again.

I am running on Joomla 1.5.22 and CiviCRM 3.2.3.  I wasn't having this problem before upgrading from Joomla 1.5.21 to 1.5.22.

you don't need to modify any joomla or civi files. the issue is that civicrm was installed using one form of the url, and when you login with the other form, civi redirects and you lose your session (thus kicking you to the login screen).

so let's say civi was installed when you accessed the site using: mydomain.org
you login to: www.mydomain.org

the browser treats those as different domains, and logs different session variables. when you navigate to civi from the www. form, civi tries to access the alternate version (non-www) and you get kicked out.

civi stores the domain value in its settings, which is why this discrepancy matters. there's been some effort to make it more flexible in this regard, but until then, you need to use the configured form of the domain consistently.

best way to do that is to create an htaccess directive to force one or the other form of the domain
