County Selection Not Working/Enabled on Profile
July 22, 2011, 09:14:51 pm
The newly implemented County field requires you to select your state first.   On our user registration profile, and possibly others, the county option does not become activated after the state is selected. See attached, where state is chosen but County still reads "Select state".

This functionality DOES work in the ADDRESS section of the "New Individual" entry screen.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this for the other screens?  Is it because in some other profiles, address info is not being entered in an ADDRESS section?

See attached.  And Thanks!

I'm not sure but this might be a bug.

1. Can you produce this behavior on the Demo site?
2. If yes, have you considered filing an issue in Issue tracker?

Yes, I have replicated the issue on the demo site.  So it's a true bug.  So I hope someone can fix it soon.  It would really help us.

I submitted this issue to the JIRA issues tracker and Mr. Lobo and another nice guy (Adam?) responded that the problem was that my county field was set for primary while the state field was set for home.  So I changed this, with great hope, and I rebuilt my menus/caches in both CiviCRM and Drupal- but I still have the problem, even in a browser with a cleared cache.  :(

I'm going to upgrade from CiviCRM 3.4.4 to 3.4.6 to see if it helps.

OK, just a quick update:  I installed CiviCRM 3.4.5, rebuilt everything- still no luck getting the county list, EVEN on the CiviCRM side (doesn't even matter if I'm on the Drupal side).   I guess 3.4.6 isn't out yet, but in the issues tracker, Mr. Lobo indicates 3.4.6 as the fix version...

3.4.6 indeed is not released, but apparently this fix is schedule for release in 3.4.6.  If the "patch" (code that is used to fix the problem) is not too complex, you could try do download and apply the patch yourself.  This requires some PHP skill.  Your other options would be to hire a professional to implement the patch for you, or just to wait a few weeks for 3.4.6.

can you reproduce your issue on the demo server? Andrew and I tested the profile on the demo server and it worked as expected, hence the issue was closed

We use the demo server as the reference platform to test and reproduce bugs on

Hi Mr. Lobo.

I logged into the demo site and there's not county field at all!

Attached is a screen shot of:

I've just upgraded to 3.4.7 to avoid a bug with using profiles in batch update that was plaguing my obsolete installation, and now I'm having the same problem as miko. After enabling counties in the demo, I was able to reproduce the problem of the county menu not being triggered when using it in a profile (specifically in batch update in my case).

Similar problem here. County is enabled in our database and works fine for individual contact edit.
But included in a profile used for Batch Edit, it fails to populate the county list.

Running Drupal6/CiviCRM 3.4.1 - tested and verified in the demo as well (see screenshot)

To Replicate in the demo:
1. Enable county field
2. Create a profile that includes Country, State, and County from the same address type
3. Search for contacts in United States/California
4. Select 2 or more individual contacts, and opt to batch update via profile
5. Select your new profile.
6. Note that while country and state are already filled in, the county indicates that the state field has not been selected.

Is this in the Issue tracker anywhere? I did a search and couldn't find it, but maybe there's terminology that I"m missing?

The county support was contributed by a community person who might not have done the needful for this use case

any chance your org can take a look and submit a patch for this

thanx

The county selection based upon state is more-or-less the same system as the state selection based upon country.  Neither works in batch update.  (When building the state/county stuff, I used country/state as my guide, but obviously there was a big gap I didn't know about.)

There's an issue open about this:
