can't create events or campaign pages
November 05, 2011, 09:37:43 pm
I've just done a clean install of drupal 7.9 and civicrm 4.0.7 and it all looks pretty good with no errors. The Drupal side of things is all working fine and I can create contacts in civicrm. but i can't create events or campaign pages. when i try it just returns me back to the same create page without reporting an error. when i go into either the manage events or campaigns screens it say there are none.

Any ideas? I'm new to civi but have used drupal for a couple of years.

thanks
Stephen

We had a similar report here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=22108.0

Can you also test on the demo?

Yeah, it works ok in the demo.

How can I troubleshoot this? Is there an error log with more info? It's just failing without any error.

I'm starting to suspect that this is a file permissions issue on the server.

The files and directories all have me as the owner but apache is running as the user nobody.

I tried to set my civicrm extensions directory and it says that the folder is not writeable. So, just to see if i could make it work i set the permissions on the whole directory structure to 777. It still didn't work but I did get a little further. Two new directories were created within the extensions directory but they got the permission 755 which would not be writeable for apache.

So i think that if i can sort out the ownership and permissions that could solve my problem.

My server is running on a shared hosting platform and i don't have root access.

Is Civi known to have problems on a shared host? and is there anything i can do to set things up so it can work properly.

thanks

Yes. The official statement on the About CiviCRM page ( http://civicrm.org/aboutcivicrm ) regarding hosting is:

CiviCRM is resource-intensive. We encourage users to consider Virtual Private Servers (VPS) OR (semi) dedicated hosting OR shared hosting from a host with experience hosting CiviCRM. Please review our Hosting provider information page for hosting options.

I would suggest you ask your host if they can assist you.
