Tab caching on joomla
February 06, 2012, 11:13:28 am
Hey there,

Investigating some problems in a Joomla site which seems to be affecting others but haven't seen a solution yet.

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,18547.msg77051.html#msg77051

example step to reproduce problem
1) go to a persons membership tab
2) edit membership (e.g. change status with status override)
3) tab does not update - even if you navigate away from the URL, etc. until you do a 'hard refresh', e.g. cmd+shift+r on a mac.

This happens locally and on the production server (which are two pretty different environments, neither of which have memcache or other caches on. i'm 100% sure on that for the local site and 97% for the production (not our usual set up)).

It happens in firefox (9 and 10)
It isn't an issue on the demo site.
It happened before and after a 3.2.5 to 3.4.8 upgrade.
It may have started after a server move (have deleted templates_c cache).

In case it helps, we are also experiencing this issue with the same client: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,23280.0.html

aha! just found out this probem is likely due to a non standard .htaccess file, which I attach for reference.

Michael - do post back here when you confirm the specific directive(s) causing this mis-behavior.

Hey there,

We decided to switch back to the standard Joomla template as the custom .htaccess wasn't necessary or making that big an impact/improvement.

Thought that the next best thing would be to post the offending .htaccess here to point people in the right direction...

"Offending" htaccess file is derived from Akeeba backup author Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos and is well regarded and adopted in some sections of the Joomla community. Running sites thru GTMetrix with this tweaked htaccess file has led to 10% increase in page load speed which is what makes it a valuable addition to some Joomla sites. Thats not offensive surely ;)
