I am using CiviCRM 4.0.3 on Joomla 2.5.2

I want to only allow users to register via CiviCRM not via joomla, however I need the joomla login module to allow access to members pages.
In order to include joomla registration during the civicrm registration, I need to have 'allow user registration' activated in joomla.
However, this means there will be a link in the module for registration.
If a user clicks on this link, he will be taken to the normal joomla registration page.

I would like that link to either:
1. not be displayed
2. have the user redirected to the CiviCRM membership registration page.

I tried to use the CiviRegistrationSystemPlugin, it is listed as being for joomla 1.6 but it does not seem to be active in my case.
Am I doing something wrong, is the plugin not working for 2.5, is there another way of achieving this?
