HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error)
March 22, 2012, 02:16:45 pm
I have just installed CiviCRM 4.1.1 on a fresh Joomla 2.5.3 and I get the following error when clicking on any of the three "Go" buttons or perform any Administration function:

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www........com/clf/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/domain&action=update&reset=1&civicrmDestination=%2Fclf%2Fadministrator%2F%3Foption%3Dcom_civicrm%26task%3Dcivicrm%2Fadmin%2Fconfigtask%26reset%3D1. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Any ideas of why this is happening?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Angelo.

A 500 error should store an error message in the server logs. Can you find that?

This message is:

The default mailbox has not been configured. You will find more info in our online user and administrator guide.

You need to setup that mailbox.

Thank you for your assistance.

Here is the results of an attempt to configure the default mailbox:

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.deci3.com/clf/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/domain. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

This happens with any configuration attempt through the administrator menu in CiviCRM as soon as I click on "Save".

Thanks!

You have hinted on what might be the problem.
The current version of MySQL and PHP are 5.0.67 and 5.2.9 respectively.  CiviCRM 4.1.1 requires 5.1+ and 5.2+ respectively.

I am going to upgrade MySQL to 5.1.52 and see.

Actually, the versions are:
MySQL 5.1.52
PHP 5.3.8

Still I get the same errors.

Was that always the MySQL version? If not, then perhaps reinstall now that it's 5.1.

The MySQL version was always 5.1.52.

I have removed CiviCRM and its database and reinstalled with the same results.

When you try to configure the mailbox, what error is thrown in the log?

I see in there:

/var/www/html/clf/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Utils/System.php, permissionDenied, 185

which is odd. Can you ask your host or sysadmin to review this thread?

I am the admin, however, I contacted the tech support of my hosting provider as well.  He pointed out that the file and folders for System.php did not exist.

I have re-installed CiviCRM resulting in the same error messages.

I used the Admin Tools of Akeeba to Fix Permissions.  I ran the DB Repair & Optimize Tables, and Clean the Temp Directory.

Instead of uncompressing the files after uploading them to the hosting site, I uncompressed them and then uploaded them to the temp installation directory.

Installed the CiviCRM again. No upgrade was necessary as the database already existed (the db was completely removed for an earlier install).

In executing any of the Administrator commands of CiviCRM in the Joomla Backend renders the following error message:

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.deci3.com/clf/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/domain&action=update&reset=1&civicrmDestination=%2Fclf%2Fadministrator%2F%3Foption%3Dcom_civicrm%26task%3Dcivicrm%2Fdashboard%26reset%3D1. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
