Integrating Civi with some more capable Mapping or GIS systems
February 20, 2008, 01:37:24 am
Hey - wondering if anyone else has looked in to integrating some more capable mapping features - eg being able to output different 'types' of meetings so they show up with different coloured dots - or inserting a location and pulling out of civi all the people in that neighbourhood (eg we might want to select several of our smallest census area - a meshblock - and search our dbase for all supporters in that area.

I note that at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,254.0.html Lobo said

I think the location module in drupal offers this functionality, so attempting to port the solution from that module is a good  first step

Anyone had a go at this?

Hi,

I did put custom makers for a project unrelated to civi, and that's rather simple. Could you detail ?

Hi Xavier - not sure which one I am clarifying - peter dot davis59 for a skype call if that would help.
a/ keen to be able to have different 'activities' and 'events' mappable so that they can be visually coded to demonstrate different attributes.

For example we need to track meetings that our clients have, and then provide them with maps showing
- what sector groups were met with (differentiated by type of sector eg envt v peace v social etc)
- which meetings were closed and which were public

b/ we want to be able to have a map on screen showing our meshblock (small census areas) so that they can be clicked to select - ie you click on several, they show up as selected, and then you output a file with the codes for those meshblocks so we can then use that to query which of our members/contacts live in that area.

Any clearer?
