When using Paypal payments the confirmation email won't send..

Not sure if you'd like to spend the penny to see for yourself, but our client is ready to begin accepting people right away for their event, thing is all the information for the event is in the confirmation email that never gets to the user signing up..

Without Paypal payments - the email confirmation works perfectly.  I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact Paypal redirects them back to the page and something's missing..

Is there something I'm missing in CiviCRM or on their PayPal account that is prohibiting this?

what version and what paypal protocol are u using. If standard, might want to check your apache logs and see that the paypal IPN is hitting your server etc

We're using Paypal website payments standard, CiviCRM 4.1.2, and Wordpress 3.3.2

I don't see anything wrong.  Error log has no issues whatsoever either.

There is also a log in your templates_c directory (although it might have been moved in 4.1?) - the path used to be templates_c/en_US/ConfigandLog/

This is exactly the same issue we have experienced for weeks - mentioned in this forum on 29 May.  Confirmation emails for paid events used to work fine so I'm not sure if the issues began when we moved over to 4.1  Thanks for starting the conversation nextwave - I'll follow it with interest.

a bit wierd that the fatal @ 12:35:05 does not have a backtrace associated with it

any chance u can debug the code and figure out whats happening. Civi should be using the full url rather than the relatvei url? I suspect a bug with the Civi+WP integration

do u get a fatal error message when paypal is enabled?

It may well be more than a bug just affecting Civi + WP integration as we're using Drupal 7 and hitting the same issue. Are there any other Drupal users out there having the same problem?

at civicrm.org, we do use D7 + 4.2. We used it for civicon registration quite successfully.

Lindsey: Would really help if someone on your side can dig into the code and help debug

I took a quick look at WP to see if WP was sending paypal a full url or relative url and if i could reproduce the fatal error

We are sending PP a complete url. So not sure how you got that error. Nothing was recorded in my error logs

Can you spend some time on the wordpres demo and see if u can reproduce the issue

I updated the backtrace text.. Grabbed the wrong portions.

How would I even begin to debug this?

On LindseyM and my install the issue was we were getting failures in the Smarty template engine as I think that the upgrade of the message templates failed from 4.0 -> 4.1. Reverting the messages (which were showing as custom messages) in configuration -> message templates -> System Messages fixes the problem.

Has there been a solution to this problem? As we are experiencing the same thing.

After people register for our event, and pay via Paypal (using a credit card) it will redirect them back to our website. They receive a receipt from Paypal, but not confirmation email for our actual event. Also, the event staff aren't getting cc'ed on the registrations either.

However, this is not a problem is people opt to pay by check/mail. They will get the event confirmation.

I'm experiencing the same issue. IPN appears to work as expected. Contribution status changes to completed. No confirmation email is sent for either event registrations or membership transactions.
