Upgraded from 4.08, menu doesn't work (SOLUTION: HTML Form Snippets problem)
June 11, 2012, 01:03:34 am
I upgraded from 4.0.8 to 4.1.3. No errors in the upgrade.

I visited the front page of CiviCRM, everything worked fine. I checked out the new page for the cron jobs and I turned off a block I had that had the old link for running the cron for sending emails. Went back to the CiviCRM page. Menu does not work - no drop downs and I can't click on anything. The dashboard - which had been working fine - now gives you an error about needing javascript turned on.

I tried IRC, but couldn't get anyone to respond.

Thanks!

I've...

Cleared all caches in Drupal
Verified the resource URLs are correct
Cleared my browser cache
Logged out and back in
Tried a different browser

Same thing.

Did you remove your CiviCRM template files?

Yes, completely deleted them.

It seems to be an on/off issue. It was working a bit ago and then when I'd been in a few pages of CiviCRM the menu stopped working again.

If it's not consistent, then it doesn't sound like a CiviCRM issue. Hard to say. Perhaps the host machine has intermittent problems delivering the JS files?

It didn't happen until the upgrade. If I switch back to the backup, everything works fine. I upgrade again, the issue once again occurs. It's the only site I've upgraded and is the only one where this is happening. All the java on the Drupal side is working fine (even when the CiviCRM problems pop up), but not the CiviCRM side.

Also...

It appears that it doesn't stop working and then restart working. It works the first time you visit the site. You can do a couple tasks. Then the menu and dashboard stop working. They never restart working.

I can move to another computer and everything works again for a few tasks and then once again the menu issue pops up.

This happens no matter what theme I use. I removed all custom themes and only used an unedited version garland and it still happened.

Ok, after about an hour on IRC, we figured it out. The problem is changes in the directories for scripts. If you're using HTML Form Snippets - such as to have a form in the body of a page or in a block - it is now out of date. You need to go grab the newer version of the snippet and replace what you're currently using. Otherwise all the CiviCRM scripting stops working on any page where that custom form is located. So if you're like me and it is in a block, that is a lot of pages that could go wrong.

The pages that did work were all set to go full-width, which is why it would work fine sometimes.

Hi jsimonis,

This might be where I am having difficulty following an upgrade.  I too get the "Javascript must be enabled..." warning on my dashboard but I also do not have the entire civi menu appearing.

My original post is here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,25541.0.html

Where is the script directory you mention in your last post and where can I see if mine is outdated and how to get an up to date version?

Thanks!

- Roland
