Can't use quick edit for contacts
May 10, 2013, 09:41:05 am
When I try to use quick edit for contacts (ex : to change email, phone...), I get the message
Quote
Network Error
Unable to reach the server. Please refresh this page in your browser and try again.

I refresh the page but i get the message again.

However, "classic" edit work well.

Any idea ?

Please check your browser console to see what is being returned by the ajax call.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

there seems to be a conflict with the WordPress Notification Bar extension. I desactivate this extension and it works

Did anybody find a solution for this problem? Just of a sudden i can not save contacts in civicrm, only the cancel button works, see image, the screen stays like this forever as shown in the screen capture, then when i click back, it gives me this error "Network error, unable to reach server".
I am able to edit and save message templates but not contacts, and i cannot even add a new contact.

This might not be a civicrm problem, rebooted my server and everything seems to work again

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?

I just upgraded to 4.4.0, and now get the error "Network Error Unable to reach the server. Please refresh this page in your browser and try again." when I try to use the inline edit, but the normal edit works OK (except that it causes relationships to be lost). Help files are also not accessible ("Unable to load help file").

Tried clearing everything I could think of - caches, templates, menus, and rebuilding and resettings. And I re-started the server. But the error persists.

Strange. It it is failing when trying to call files under civicrm/ajax, but there is no ajax directory.

Re-installed CiviCRM 4.4, but the ajax directory is still missing.

Paths in civicrm do not map to real directories. They are routed through php the same as drupal/wordpress pages are. So you're on the wrong track looking for the directory.
What output do you get when you visit the ajax callback directly (grab it from your console and paste it into the url bar).
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

I see. Thanks. I get:

GET http://xxxxxxxxxx/civicrm/ajax/inline?cid=936&class_name=CRM_Contact_Form_Inline_CommunicationPreferences&snippet=6&reset=1 404 (Category not found)    jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
send     jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
v.extend.ajax      jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
v.(anonymous function)      jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
v.extend.getJSON      jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
crmFormInline      Summary.js?r=tcuR7:22
(anonymous function)      Summary.js?r=tcuR7:208
v.event.dispatch      jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2
o.handle.u      jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7:2

If I copy the URL of any of the jqueries and paste it into the browser, the output seems to be sensible (five or six screenfuls of text). The URL looks like this: http://xxxxxxxxxx/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/packages/jquery/jquery-1.8.3.min.js?r=tcuR7

There's also a syntax error:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected number ?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/contact/view&reset=1&cid=936&key=eca5d4aa5180fxxxxxff5b28e584bd9c_…:99
Warning: CRM.url called before initialization rest.js?r=tcuR7:46

The full URL of the one with the ...:99 at the end is:
http://xxxxxxxxxx/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/contact/view&reset=1&cid=936&key=eca5d4aa5180fxxxxxff5b28e584bd9c_8206&context=search

Jquery versions are not the problem (jquery core and jquery ui have different version numbers currently, that's fine).
The problem is definitely the url that's being called back to. Since you are on Joomla, the url it is trying to reach is wrong. You said it was trying to fetch http://xxxxxxxxxx/civicrm/ajax/inline?cid=936&class_name=CRM_Contact_Form_Inline_CommunicationPreferences&snippet=6&reset=1 but that is a drupal-style url. And it also happens to be the default fallback whenever CRM.url is called prior to being initialized. (And you even have a console message to confirm that - Warning: CRM.url called before initialization)
So the question is why is CRM.url not being initialized.
In your page source you should be seeing something like this: CRM.url('init', '/administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/example&placeholder');
If you go to the demo site at joomla.demo.civicrm.org and open up civicrm you will see that in the page source.
2 possibilities I can think of:
1: CRM.url('init' is not in your page source for some reason. Try flushing all caches and deleting the contents of templates_c.
2: It is in your page source, but some badly written script in your theme is causing javascript to crash. Try switching themes.
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Thanks very much.

The CRM.url('init' is in the page source OK, and looks exactly the same as in the demo site.

The backend template is a standard Joomla template (Isis), so it seems unlikely that there is some badly written script. I tried switching to the other templates, but still get the same error.

I have flushed everything and deleted templates_c and Config.IDS.ini.

So I'm flummoxed!

since the joomla demo is also running 4.4, i would compare the various ajax calls made by the demo server against your install

might help narrow and track down the issue. i'm assuming u r on joomla 2.5.x
