Import Bug? : Says that it has successfully imported X rows, but 0 rows imported
May 07, 2008, 01:05:09 pm
Hello, I did a good solid search for some import errors.  None of them appeared to be quite like what I just experienced, so I am posting a new thread.  Here is what I did.

1) Installed CiviCRM 2.0.3 on Drupal 5.7 - with test data.
2) Created a series of about a dozen Custom data fields (mostly Alpha/Numeric and Yes/No)
3) Did the data mapping and imported successfully 16 rows of data using the data mapping.
4) Realized I wanted a couple more Custom data fields, so created them.
5) Searched for "All Contacts" and deleted all contacts, which deleted all the test data + my 16 rows.
6) Resyched Drupal users to CiviCRM (which brought back 2 users besides my own)
7) Edited the data mapping slightly (to account for new Custom Data fields)
8) Reimported all the 16 rows, which it said there was a success.
9) Searched for all Contacts, and none of the 16 un"successfully imported" rows show up.

Here is a screenshot of each step of the import pricess (step #8 above)

Any ideas on why these 16 users are not being imported when they were before and CiviCRM says they are now - but they are not?

Hey, anyone got any ideas?  This one's been up for a couple of days.  I can't import our data, kinda a problem.

you might want to try to reproduce on demo. if so, we can track it down.

I've been having a similar problem.

Something is wrong with our CiviCRM install, so I've created a new one on another server, added all the custom fields, rebuilt the profiles, etc.

Then I exported the data out of the problem install and tried to import it into the new install.

I mapped out all the fields so they match the correct fields in the new database.

It tells me it successfully imported 98 rows, but there are only 66 contacts.

It's not an issue of duplicates, as there are many e-mail addresses missing.

And for the most part, only the e-mail addresses have been imported - no names, street addresses, etc.

It's really frustrating. I've been trying to get this imported for a week now. This is the first time I've gotten even a partial import - every other time nothing was imported.

I just used the exact same file on the demo site. I told it not to import any of the custom fields (since I hadn't created them on the demo site) and it imported fine.

So I tried just the non-custom fields on my site, and it imported fine.

Now I have to find out why I'm having trouble with the custom fields. There's only about 5 on this import (I have too many to import all at once - site runs out of memory).

Hi,

did you skip some column in your .csv-file (selected by  -do  not import-)? I had a problem like you have. If every column of my .csv-file matches some field in civicrm, the import works properly.

Greetings

Bene

It's funny, because on the demo site I skipped fields without problem.

I just cleared and re-installed CiviCRM so that I could try just adding a few custom fields and importing a bit at a time.

I just tried to import just the non-custom stuff (name, address, phone, etc.), and once again nothing imported even though it said it did.

So I removed fields from the CSV file that I was skipping. Now it contains only primary fields that I want to import.

I tried to import, and nada.

I checked the CiviCRM log, and no errors show up.

hey jenni:

1. what version of civicrm?

2. if 2.0, can u get on IRC and give us ssh access to the server, a small sample of the import file etc so that we can debug it.

3. there is a really bad bug with import where it does not return the error due to some ajax issues. we hope to resolve it in 2.1. i suspect that might be tripping you up. its quite easy to trap it via firebug

Using 2.0.3.

It's been so long since I was on IRC (more than 10 years) that I don't even remember how. But I could definitely do that if you tell me how.

Hi Lobo,

Could you detail how to trap the errors on firebug ? I'm afraid I've strumbled on the bug too.

I looked into this and fixed it for 2.0. This bug is filed and fixed here:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3112?page=com.atlassian.jira.ext.fisheye:fisheye-issuepanel

you only need the change to Preview.tpl

Back to my original bug, I tried importing, deleting and re-importing on the Demo site, although with fewer custom fields.  I made over 20 custom fields on my own server, and didn't really have the time to make them all on your Demo site.

Your demo site, as I suspected, works fine with no issues.  Keeping in mind.... Demo site has - maybe different installation, different hosting environment, the fact that the demo site already has dozens of groups and custom fields on it already from other people playing with it.  In other words, not an identical environment.  I'll likely never be able to replicate the bug on the Demo site.

We're going to switch hosting anyway, if we have this problem again I'll be in touch, until then my particular bug will have to remain un-replicated.

I don't think it's a hosting issue - we're running the same version on other sites installed on this VPS server, and we aren't having any problems importing information.
