Entering Current Employer Broken In 4.5.0
October 03, 2014, 09:31:14 am
After upgrading to version 4.5.0, running in Joomla 3.2.7 I find I am no longer able to enter a new current employer from the edit contact screen.  x no longer works for the Advocacy Group but now work for The City of Burlington.  I deleted his previous current employer some time before, but this morning when attempting to add The City of Burlington as his current employer, it searches for other employers - there is a list which includes The City of Montpelier, The City of Rutland and others, but I do not yet have anybody listed as an employee of the City of Burlington.  So I try typing it in as before the upgrade and it will not change from selecting the first suggestion on the list to what I had typed so I can enter it as the current employer and create a new organization record for it.

I went to try to duplicate the problem on the demo site, but the Joomla demo site is still running civiCRM version 4.4.6

Found another issue.  Entering a new contact.  Switched the country from United States (our default) to Canada (our only other choice).  Before the upgrade, this would have the effect of populating the "states/provinces" field with the correct list, states for US contacts and Canadian provinces for Canadians.  Now I change the country to Canada and the list of US states remain.  No Canadian provinces appear.

We do have a default state.

I think this is yet another permutation of the same question people are asking over and over on the forum. I really need to write up a boilerplate response that I can copy and paste. See http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=34371

Thanks, Coleman.
I'm not sure I quite follow how the link applies.
I haven't noticed any javascript errors.  I checked the resource URL's and they appear sound.

The issue with changing the country not populating the provinces disappeared.  Perhaps it was related to the internet connectivity issues I was having at the time?  The trouble creating a new employer remains.

Or better yet can you reproduce the issue on the demo site:
http://wp45.demo.civicrm.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/contact/view&reset=1&cid=156
(login as demo:demo)
When I try it, the employer field seems to be working great.

The demo site for Joomla has not yet been upgraded to version 4.5.0, which is why it still works fine.

A screenshot is attached.  You will see that entering the current employer has produced a list of other employers it has found, none of which is appropriate for this contact.  One of the list is selected.  Before the upgrade, if civiCRM didn't find the current employer that was entered it just created that as a choice, which became the only choice and once selected a new organization contact was created and an employer/employee relationship created.

Actually you can use http://sandbox.joomla.civicrm.org to get to a Joomla version of 4.5, although it is an early beta.

I tried this and as soon as I clicked on the box there was a New Organization link at the bottom of the list that opened up.  As I started to type it would present the list, but when I typed enough for it to not find a match the New Organization list returned.  Clicking the link brought up a New Organization window and once you fill it out it creates the new organization and populates the field.  So this appears to be working on the demo (I tested it on the Drupal demo as well which is 4.5.0), are you not seeing that link under the conditions I described?

Agree with danc - it is working as designed. If you want to create a new organization you should click on "New Organization" otherwise pick one from the list.

Danc, thanks for the link.

I am not seeing the "create a new organization" link on my installation that I see on the sandbox site.
I wonder why.

I have Joomla 3.2.7 and the sandbox is running 2.5.

You would not see that link if
a) You do not have permission to create contacts
b) You have deleted or renamed the reserved "create new" profiles. Check this at Administer -> Customize Data & Screens -> Profiles ; click Reserved Profiles Tab and ensure that the "New Individual" "New Organization" and "New Household" profiles are there.
