RESOLVED: Autocomplete - autofill not working throughout admin side of civisite
December 16, 2014, 07:22:16 am
*** Update for any new viewers of this*** Might have narrowed down the issue to a problem with the autocomplete or autofill feature.  This is all in my admin portion of Civi - Joomla install.

Hello - relatively new to civi.  Enjoying it quite a bit.  Definite learning curve.  Found answers to most things but here is one that is stumping me ... I am trying to create a Membership Type.  But when I try to associate an Organization with it as the Membership Organization, nothing shows up in my search.
Further looking into this shows me that this is universal - if I want to create a relationship between an individual and an organization, I can't get an organization to pull up in my search.  There was one other instance, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.
The organization I'm trying to associate is definitely created as an organization and not an individual or household.  Just not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Anyone have this issue or can give me some direction?
Screen shot of what I'm seeing attached.
Thank you.

If moderators are looking at this and I'm too vague in my question, please let me know.  It's a bit of a frustrating thing.  Followed all the instructions and something isn't working ... thoughts???

Please attach a bigger screenshot so that we can read it. (See http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,35166.0/topicseen.html for an example of what I mean.)

and/or replicate on the Demo site

i can't recall ever not being able to find an Organisation when creating a Membership Type

Is the organisation of Contact Type = Organsiation - or a Contact Sub Type?

Thank you Joanne - appreciated feedback from a newbie.  Here are better screenshots.
Pete - tried to replicate the issue on demo site.
1.  Created a test organization same way I did on my site.
2.  Created a new membership type, searched for a membership organization, there it was :) on the demo site.
3.  Went back to my site and did same steps again just to check :( no matches found.
This is also contact type Organization, not a sub type.
Thanks guys.
Jonathan

hmm - other thoughts/random ideas

add an org called QQQ - does it show (ie making the name as simple as possible)

assuming not then it sounds like the autocomplete is failing

is autocomplete working in other places? is there anything else failing anywhere else in your set up

Thanks for the reply.  Pete.  I did try WVSA instead.  Same thing.  You are correct.  It does feel like autocomplete is failing.  It does the same thing in the contact area.  If I want to create a relationship with the contact and an organization (contact is an employee of) none of my real or test organizations pull up in the autocomplete area.
Nothing else is failing so far in my set up.  All has been pretty straightforward.  Anything I had questions on, I found answers for so far.  This is the only thing stumping me.

Have you done a search for autocomplete failing / not working? It isn't one that is familiar to me

OK - spent a lot of time looking up info on autofill/autocomplete.  It appears that it could be an issue getting to some parts of the database if you don't have proper access.  I'm superuser in my joomla account with full access to all civicrm.
So not quite sure if that could be it.
Should I try an uninstall of civicrm and reinstall?  How painful is this if I already have put in a bit of work with uploading contacts, etc?

Not sure I can help you further. If you can catalogue anything else that is not working on your install it might help someone else chip in. Also anything else such as have you done an upgrade, did this work before, any odd Joomla considerations etc.

Going for a reinstall sounds drastic but if you can fire up a new install separately and confirm if things are good on that one then it may help you identify what might be intefering.

Is this a standard Joomla install with the standard theme or have you installed other extensions and a different theme?

If the latter can you disable the other extensions and revert to the standard theme and see if the problem persists.

That was a great question Joanne.  Thank you.  It was loaded into a joomla install with extensions and themes.  I spent the evening loading civicrm and joomla into a different domain with no extensions or themes, fresh install completely and ... same exact problem.  Is it a joomla thing?  Should I switch to drupal?  I can't believe I'm the only one out there with this problem ...

I have just looked at your profile more closely.  You have your MySQL version as 2008.  There is no such MySQL version.  Have you made a mistake with the version number or are you somehow running this on Microsoft SQL server 2008?

Thank you - I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to put in there.  Not really my world of expertise.  It actually is Sql 5.5.  It was at 5.0 a couple of days ago, but I noticed while doing research that civicrm prefers 5.5, so I went through the process of upgrading to 5.5 and restoring my 5.0 database to the 5.5 version.
