Author Topic: Volunteers not working since 4.7 update (Read 1633 times)

Hi,

I just updated to CiviCRM 4.7 and now I can't seem to add volunteers to our events. If I click on the Volunteers tab it just takes me back to the events dashboard.

Is this because of the 4.7 update? Is CiviVolunteer properly compatible?

Or, when I first updated I had an error message relating to Postcode Lookup that meant I could no longer access the Control Panel. Since we don't use it anyway I simply restored to a previous point, uninstalled the extension, and then did the completed the update. I am wondering now, if when I restored the databases, should I have created a new version and redirected rather than write over the top, or does this not make any difference?

If anyone has any thoughts it'd be greatly appreciated.

Oh and I'm using Joomla 3.4.4

What version of CiviVolunteer are you using with 4.7?

That version of CiviVolunteer was never expected to work with CiviCRM 4.7. I'm sorry you found out the hard way!

Last week CiviVolunteer 2.0.1 was released. This version will be compatible with CiviCRM 4.7 when 4.7.5 is released. We had to change some code in core to unbreak CiviVolunteer's ability to integrate with CiviCRM Profiles. If you can't wait for 4.7.5 to come out, you can apply this patch to core.

When 4.7.5 is officially released, we'll mark CiviVolunteer 2.x as 4.7-compatible.

Hi,

I've now upgraded to CiviCRM 4.7.7 but now having a different but similar issue. If I go to the event configuration and click on volunteers it opens the event dashboard within the frame instead of the volunteering module.

Any thoughts on why this might be occuring?

Sorry, forgot to say we're using:
CiviCRM 4.7.7
CiviVolunteer 4.6-2.0.0

Have now upgraded to CiviCRM 4.7.10 and CiviVol 4.6-2.1.2
They're supposed to be compatible I believe, however the issue continues, I can still not add volunteers to any events, it just returns to the events dashboard if I try to select this.

Those versions are indeed compatible.

I don't think there's enough information here for me to help you. Are there any errors in your JavaScript console? Have you checked your Extension Resource URL? Do the interfaces accessible through the "Volunteers" menu (vs. on the event tab) work as expected, or are they broken as well?

Thanks very much for responding Frank. I'm not sure of the answer to the first two questions as I don't know how to check that. If you can point me to any resources for finding out how, I will do that.

In answer to the last question, you are correct, the specific volunteer tab is not working correctly either. New Volunteer Projects, Manage Volunteer Projects, Volunteer Interest Forms and Search for Volunteer Opportunities all just take you back to the CiviCRM home page. Funnily enough the configure options under this menu do work correctly though.

That the "configure options" menu item works as expected doesn't surprise me. That page is rendered completely differently from the pages that aren't loading. In a way this is good news. It confirms that my original questions were on track. You need to check your extension resource URL and look for JavaScript errors. Either could be the cause of your problem.

There is information about setting the extension resource URL on the wiki. Look for the first paragraph after the green boxes.

Here's a post that collects troubleshooting tips for JavaScript-related problems. In particular see the "Troubleshooting Tools" section.

Thanks for the assistance.

I've checked the extension resource URL and remember now setting it up. It is part of the root so should be accessible. Anything else I should check?

I ran the debugger and the console shows an issue with "Empty string passed to getElementByID()" and refers to jquery.min.js:2:24487

The really strange thing is however, these elements now seem to be working without me having actually done anything. So now I'm even more confused!
