Problems while installing Civicrm2.1.1 in Joomla1.5.7 -- Help me
October 22, 2008, 01:00:57 am
I am new to this installation of Civicrm, Anybody help me out in installing this into Joomla 1.5.7.

I've downloaded and unzipped this on my hard disk and uploaded into the server which is hosted with Go daddy, i have uploaded all the files into the folder administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm. When I went to the administrator panel-->Extensions-->install/uninstall and tried to enter the path it is giving me an error "Please enter the valid path or directory".
I went into the Help-->Systeminfo-->configuration file, to check the path of the website. $log_path but it is showing as /var/logs/ which is confusing me to know the exact path.

Can any body help me what is the exact procedure to install this extension into my website.

Thanks in Advance

That error is because you don't have the correct full path location to the installation files.
In J1.5.7, when you go to the extension install page, there should be a default path in the install from directory box. It points to the /tmp/ folder, which you may need to change to whatever location you uploaded the install files to. That should help you locate the root path location.

Alternately and possibly easier is to upload the install files into the tmp folder that is referenced in the Install from Directory box - as lcdweb said, that directory usually ends in /tmp/.

I am also having an issue with this.  I am pretty confident I have the correct path: /administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm

I am also getting the "Please enter a package directory" error.

The com_civicrm has 755
The admin folder in the com_civicrm folder has 755
The remaining files in that folder are 644

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to use the full root path. Not relative to your public directory.
/home/usr/public_html/administrator....
something like that.

I am a newbie to Joomla.  But I am having the same problem as SDM7001 above. I don't understand what lcdweb  wrote below.

You need to use the full root path. Not relative to your public directory.
/home/usr/public_html/administrator....
something like that.

Icdweb, can you clarify how I should write the root path? I don't understand.        /home/usr/public_html/administrator.....
I uploaded the civic crm with dreamweaver ftp.

I get this error: "Please enter package directory"  What does this mean?

Any help would be appreciated.

Not much more I can do to clarify. You need the full root path on your server to the location of the uploaded, unpacked, CiviCRM files. Most people put a relative path from their public/html directory, which won't work.

BTW, if the server specs in your profile are correct, you can't run Civi v2.1 -- it requires php5.

On Joomla's Extensions Install screen, there is usually a default directory listed in the "Install from Directory" box.  It likely ends with "/tmp".  If you uploaded the unpacked files to "/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm", then your correct installation directory will be what is in that box, except replace "/tmp" with "/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm".  Leave everything there that is before "/tmp".

I verified my PHP setting and it is 4.3.11.  I am using Godaddy server. :(   I will talk to godaddy.

Bharath,  the only text in that box is "/tmp"     I  tried:  /administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm  and it still gives me the same error.

Could it be in the systems setting or server settings are incorrect in Joomla?  I have tried so many variations I just don't know what else to try.

Any other suggestions that I can try?  I really want to use Civic CRM.

Find out what your root directory is from GoDaddy.

FYI you can look in your joomla configuration file to find your root path. Or really, just look at the tmp path and take of the tmp part usually ;).
