Is Civimail incompatable with cPanel's exim4 mailer?
March 04, 2009, 10:59:31 am
Wonder if someone can share some experiences.
I tried now for over a month to get Civimails postfix MTA to talk to my hosts exim4 SMTP mailer, to get my monthly newsletter out.
See my experience http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6601.0.html
and further elaboration http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6671.0.html.

Today finally my ISP host came back to me with this remark:
Quote
we have reread this ticket, and noticed one thing that you mentioned at start:

CiviCRM's civimail use the postfix MTA (Mail transfer agent).

Is that module compatible with Exim4, which is running on our servers as standard part of cPanel?

Unfortunately, I am not sure that we can check anything further here.
If CiviCRM module is using proper SMTP Authentication, and have mail account properly setup, you would have to contact script developers for any additional assistance.

After this remark  I  again did some research and then noticed the discussion http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,2382.msg10368.html#msg10368 .
Progress report: After some experimenting I commented line nr 898 to
   //     'Return-Path'      => $verp['bounce'],.
And this hack did the trick to send out the massmailer mail.

Now t is to see if I can still doing something on the return path or bounced email story
