Inconsistant saving of gmap Latitude / Longitude info on manual add.

Hello there,
I am using the inbuilt gmaps in civicrm, but as I am in the UK (and UK postcodes are not public) I am having to enter the figures manually. This is not a problem, but I am finding that for a third of contacts the figures are lost on saving (I don't get a "Map this address" link in the Primary location box) and when I edit the contact the figures have disappeared. It is the same contacts that are broken each time, but without any rhyme or reason to it. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong, or of things to look for?
Many thanks in advance for any advice you might have,
Matt

UPDATE: I got to the root of the problem, it's the "State / Province" field. See http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,8331.0.html.
