Is the french Translation Group still active ?
February 23, 2010, 04:42:57 am
Hi there,

The CiviCRM french translation available on the translation site is still incomplete!

Are they, around, some members of this French Translation Group able to inform me on the work status, for the late 3.1.2 CiviCRM version?

Many thanks by advance!  :P

Merci d'avance !  :P

Hi,

I have done a bit of translation in the past, not much these days, but when I notice missing strings or errors, I use the Pootle tool (http://translations.civicrm.org/), then download the file and install it locally. Strings in Pootle usually go into the SVN trunk eventually (iirc).

If there are translators in Montreal (QC), I'd be happy to invite you for a beer where I work (koumbit.org) and discuss how to improve the translation.

Dear Mathieu,

Many thanks for the invitation to drink a beer, but Montreal, seems to me a bit far away from the French Riviera where I live. I believe that this beer could be a little bit expensive, if I consider the price of the airplane ticket.  :o

As you see, I'm a "Cursed French", as you call us in Québec!

If we could communicate via the forum, or email, it would seem to me, maybe, more reasonable, in the first time  ;)

Regards

Michel

---------------

Cher Mathieu,

Cordialement.

Michel

Strings in Pootle usually go into the SVN trunk eventually (iirc).

They actually go to the both CiviCRM versions that are active at the given time (3.0 and 3.1 at the moment). I tend to commit them to the repository every Monday and do a cross-version update just prior to releases.

BTW: Do let me know if it makes sense to populate the untranslated (and fuzzy) Canadian French strings with their French translations (where such a translation is available), I can make it a part of my work-flow.

(I’m asking because it heavily depends on a given language variant – it makes sense for Australian English to default to British English where not explicitly overridden, but I think it would be a grave sin to default Brazilian Portuguese to Portuguese…)

It makes sense to populate the fr_CA with the fr_FR. Usually we don't have specific regional translations (at least not in written form), unless there are things specific to typography, currency, etc. Sometimes it can be useful for a few words ("adresse courriel!"), fr_CA tends to use more neologisms, less english words. Looking at the strings for specific terms that I know would be different, I have the feeling that the languages have already been synched (from fr_CA to fr_FR)?

@Michel: hence the "if..." :-)  The forums are a good alternative of course.

Well I'm in Marseille. But if your organize something I'd like to see that. What about a trip to Marseille, we have better weather than in Paris, the sea, and beaches to relax.

By the way, is there some sort of language caching in civicrm ? I've noticed that after having compiled the mo.file and uploaded it on my install, my changes applies a day after or something like that. Am I Dreaming or what ?

Hi,

Not that I'm trying to compete with the weather in the south of France, but we could organise that again in Brussels.
