Can't add a relationship (demo NOT working either)
November 20, 2008, 12:58:30 pm
Trying to set up a relationship between an individual and organization (employee of)

Problem occurs in the wild and on the demo. In the demo, I tried to use Ms Sheila K Grant and set her up as an employee of Cisco Systems. Completed the search and marked the contact, clicked save relationship and up pops

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
We experienced an unexpected error. Please file an issue with the backtrace

Creates a significant problem

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?action=browse&selectedChild=rel

can u please try to repeat your experiment and if you can reproduce, give us exact steps on how to do so

thanx

Search for an individual
This time I chose Mr Sam P Jameson Sr.
Select Relationships Tab
Select New Relationship
Select "Employee of"
Select Compumentor in Find Target Contact
Select Search
Mark Compumentor as Target Contact
Select Save Relationship

No - it still doesn't work. I tried it in both IE and Firefox and receive the same result.

I just tried setting up an individual as an employee from the relationship tab at an organization - and it worked in that direction. I can't understand why a relationship can't be established from an individual's record.

Joe - We've been trying to recreate this on demo from here. I've managed to recreate it ONCE out of about 15 tries - and can't get it to do it again. :-(

Can you go through your steps which recreate the bug consistently - and write them down exactly for us so hopefully we can also recreate consistently. We're definitely scratching our heads.

Well aside from the frustration with the issue - on two positive notes; I've got Dave and Don on the problem and I've been upgraded to "I post occassionally".

I dont know if this is in any way related, but I now have 2 "CiviMember Roles Sync" modules on my Drupal modules page - with:
sites/all/modules/civimember_roles
and
sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/modules/civicrm_member_roles
...should both be live?

I've not been able to successfully accomplish this on either the demo or my site. The steps are the same as before:

Search for an individual
Each time I select a new individual
Select Relationships Tab
Select New Relationship
Select "Employee of"
Select ANY organization in Find Target Contact
Select Search
Mark the chosen organization as Target Contact
Select Save Relationship

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Just to make it more curious. If I create a relationship (other than employee of) and delete it for an individual, and then try to create an employee relationship - it works.

I'll guess that you now have it fixed on the demo site - as I can set up an "employee of" from an individual account.  It now works in the sandbox - do you have a patch?

...forget my earlier comment about it working in the sandbox...

a bit more digging and here's what happens...

After receiving the warning "Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred." I returned to the previous screen and "employee of" was not an option in the drop down list of relationship types.

We haven't made a fix as we still can not recreate consistently. We think there's some session corruption happening using a certain sequence - possibly related to the Ajax search box - but still working on it.

sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/modules/civicrm_member_roles is the new supported version included in 2.1.2. You should disable the older version.

Perhaps there is a problem with the Ajax search box related to "organization" as I'm having an issue with individuals. An individual with an "employee of" relationship and with a listed "current employer" will show in an individual's "summary" - when I go to edit the record, the "current employer" field is empty. Editing the record and saving without re-entering the "current employer" will delete the "current employer" from the record - yet the relationship remains intact. This is occurring on my site - I can't duplicate this particular issue in the sandbox.
